Diamonds have always played a major role in history. It is said that whoever owned the Koh-I-Noor ruled the world. This diamond appeared on the scene over 5,000 years ago. The diamond roamed Asia for centuries, but in 1813 the Lion of Persia gained possession of it and had it polished to 186 carats. He is said to have named it Koh-I-Noor, which means “mountain of light”. In 1852 the Koh-I-Noor was presented to Britain’s Queen Victoria. She had a Dutch diamond cutter polish it into its current form of 108.93 carats. Today, the Koh-I-Noor is part of the British Crown Jewels and is immensely valuable.
